The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.
Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education.” ~Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Strong TIES MLK STEAM Day is a time to celebrate the  MLK Day holiday by highlighting the value of education and workforce. Plan to join us. Seats are limited.

In 1968, with the slogan, “I am a man,” workers in Memphis sought financial justice in a strike that fatefully became Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s final cause. In 2024, STEAM/STEM is the new workforce struggle that will determine humans financial stability now and in the future. We must do our part to break down barriers in STEAM/STEM disciplines and careers by engaging in community, introducing interventions for empowering learners, and creating inclusive spaces for all to take part in design choices that will shape the world we will live in for generations to come.

This celebration is one piece of the puzzle to continue to build “The Beloved Community”, as described by Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.. Dr. King’s Beloved Community is a global vision, in which all people can share in the wealth of the earth. In the Beloved Community, poverty, hunger and homelessness will not be tolerated because international standards of human decency will not allow it. Racism and all forms of discrimination, bigotry and prejudice will be replaced by an all-inclusive spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood.
